  • What are some factors that could cause an inaccurate measurement?

    keyboard_arrow_down

    Several, including:

    • Poor cuff position
    • Cuff is too loose or tight
    • Cuff applied over clothing
    • Taking a measurement within an hour after patient eats or drinks
    • Taking a measurement within 20 minutes after patient takes a bath

    keyboard_arrow_down

Yes, the Connex Spot Monitor can acquire automatic, unattended, interval measurements and can be programmed to initiate interval measurements at variable periods for up to five hours. The device can also be configured as a traditional spot-check device, which removes the interval and alarm functions from the user interface.

  • Does Hillrom provide bar code scanner mounting options for the Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Yes, both the Connex Spot Monitor Accessory Power Management Stand and Classic Mobile Stand have an integrated holder for Welch Allyn barcode scanners.

  • My new Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor—which powers up only when it is plugged in and connected to A/C—has no power.

    keyboard_arrow_down

The Connex Spot Monitor ships with the battery disconnected while inside the battery compartment, so you'll just need to ensure that the battery is connected:

    1. Turn the monitor screen down to access the battery cover
    2. Locate the battery cover, indicated by an image of a battery icon on the back of the monitor.
    3. Using a double-slotted screwdriver, loosen the captive screw at the base of the battery cover and remove the cover.
    4. Remove the battery to access the battery connection port on the monitor.

  • Why doesn't the configuration file appear on the list when plugging the flash drive into the Connex Spot Monitor?

    keyboard_arrow_down

The device does not support configuration files that are named with parentheses. This is a common issue if you've downloaded the same file multiple times from your web browser, for example, "MyFile.config" and "MyFile.config(2)". If this has happened, rename the file by deleting the parentheses. It will then appear in the list on the Connex Spot Monitor.

    keyboard_arrow_down

Before removing the APM work surface battery, power down the monitor and disconnect the power cord from the main outlet. (Note: You do not have to remove the APM work surface from the stand to remove the APM work surface battery.)

    1. Loosen the captive screw on the bottom of the APM work surface that secures the battery cover
    2. Remove the battery cover
    3. Gently lift the latch with one hand and pull the tab on the top of the battery with your other hand to remove the battery from its slot
    4. Slide the new battery into the slot. (Note: Ensure that the tab on the top of the battery is facing you.)
    5. Replace the battery cover and tighten the captive screw on the bottom of the APM work surface
  • Can you explain how the Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor Battery Status "time indicator" works or what that number signifies?

    keyboard_arrow_down

The battery status indicator displays the state of the battery as represented by icons in the upper-right corner of the monitor display. The battery state can be one of the following:

    • The monitor is connected to a power source and the battery is charging or is fully charged. The estimated charge rate is displayed as a percentage of capacity.
    • The monitor is not connected to a power source and is running on battery power. The estimated charge time remaining, representing all available batteries in the monitor and stand, is shown by a series of 1 - 4 bars and hours/minutes.
    • The monitor is connected to a power source, but the battery does not maintain a charge (or has been removed). Bars description: >> 4 Running on battery, battery charge is high; 76% - 100%; display time remaining (HH:MM) >> 3 Running on battery, battery charge is medium; 51% - 75%; display time remaining (HH:MM) >> 2 Running on battery, battery charge is low; 26% - 50%; display time remaining (HH:MM) >> 1 Running on battery, battery charge is very low; 11% - 25%; display time remaining (HH:MM) When the battery is not being recharged and power becomes low, an amber low-priority alarm appears in the status area.
  • How do I access the Advanced settings on my Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor?

    keyboard_arrow_down

    1. From the Home tab, touch the Settings tab.

    5. When you are done, touch Exit and the Home tab will appear

The following factors may cause inaccurate measurements during a SpO2 reading:

    • Patient is in cardiac arrest or shock
    • Excessive patient movement
    • Bright light
    • Sensor is too tight
    • Moisture in the sensor
    • Placement of a sensor on an extremity with a blood pressure cuff, arterial catheter, or intravascular line
    • Incorrect sensor application or use
    • Poor patient perfusion
    • Arterial occlusion proximal to the sensor
    • Venous pulsations
    • Intravascular dyes such as indocyanine green or methylene blue
    • Significant levels of dysfunctional hemoglobins (e.g., carboxyhemoglobin or methemoglobin)
    • Fingernail polish (if finger sensor is used)
    • Patient has hypotension, severe vasoconstriction, severe anemia, or hypothermia
    • Exposure to excessive illumination, such as surgical lamps (especially ones with a xenon light source), bilirubin lamps, fluorescent lights, infrared heating lamps, or direct sunlight. Exposure to excessive illumination can be corrected by covering the sensor with a dark or opaque material.

    keyboard_arrow_down

In an 8.37-hour period using continuous 10-minute cycles, 50 patient cycles can be completed (BP, temp, Nonin SpO2, no radio, no scanner).

  • The touchscreen on my Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor is not responding—what should I do?

    keyboard_arrow_down

    The touchscreen might need calibration:

    • Calibrate the touchscreen
    • Run the host calibration
    • Sequence from the Service tool

Special Information for U.S. Customers Only

The FDA issued Enforcement Policy for Non-Invasive Remote Monitoring Devices Used to Support Patient Monitoring During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Public Health Emergency. During this emergency and while the policy is in effect, FDA does not intend to object to limited modifications to the FDA-cleared indications without prior submission of a 510(K) where the modification does not create an undue risk. Hillrom does not yet have FDA 510(k) clearance on the combination use of the Connex Spot Monitor with Masimo RRp. Hillrom intends to adhere to FDA’s recommendations to market CSM with Masimo RRp with appropriate testing and labeling while the policy is in effect.

This device is intended to provide recommendations that should be used in an adjunctive (supportive) manner and are not intended to be used as a primary means to make diagnosis, prevention, or treatment recommendations.

Modifications to FDA Cleared Indications for Use (modifications are underlined)

The Connex Spot Monitors are intended to be used by clinicians and medically qualified personnel for monitoring of noninvasive blood pressure, pulse rate, noninvasive functional oxygen saturation of arteriolar hemoglobin (SpO2), and body temperature in normal and axillary modes of neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients. Monitoring Respiration Rate from photoplethysmogram (RRp) is indicated for adult and pediatric patients greater than 2 years old.

The most likely locations for patients to be monitored are general medical or surgical floors and general hospital and alternate care environments. The product is available for sale only upon the order of a physician or licensed health care professional.

Device Performance
Validation of the integration of Masimo RRp technology into the CSM device was completed through software verification testing and design validation of the RRp parameter in the device user interface and IFU. The CSM device has been tested and shown to comply with IEC 60601-1 Edition 3.1 and IEC 60601-1-2 4th Edition. A Risk assessment has been performed according to ISO 14971. Any identified hazards have been found to be acceptable.

Potential Risks
See the Instructions for Use included on the enclosed CD for a complete list of Warnings and Cautions.
