Hospital Bed Monitoring System

Contact-Free, Continuous Monitoring

Help your caregivers identify patient deterioration and intervene at the earliest signs  — according to your facility protocols — with this hospital bed monitoring system.

With patient acuity and complexity increasing, and patient-to-nurse ratios rising, the med-surg environment can be challenging. Amidst this reality, too many patients are dying from preventable causes. Unrecognized patient deterioration can lead to mortality that may affect as many as 17% of hospital admissions.1 Since heart rate and respiratory rate are the two most important predictors of such adverse events,2 vital signs monitoring and early intervention is crucial to keeping patients safe.

Overview

Features

Centrella Smart+ Bed is a contact-free, continuous patient monitoring device that helps you:

  • Identify signs of patient deterioration
  • Intervene early
  • Help promote patient safety

Identify Signs of Patient Deterioration

The contact-free continuous patient monitoring device contains an integrated sensor in the bed frame that detects heart rate and respiratory rate through the surface and updates the readings twice per second. This information is compiled into an algorithm to create a running trend. The bed then alerts when heart rate or respiratory rate exceeds a customizable threshold.

Help Initiate an Early Intervention

When heart rate or respiratory rate exceeds a customized threshold, caregivers are notified via a SafeView+ System indicator light, GCI touchscreen alerts and audible alerts. Alerts are also sent from the bed to the nurse call system via dome lights, status board and mobile devices.

Help Promote Patient Safety

At one hospital, contact-free, continuous monitoring in an inpatient 33-bed med-surg unit led to3:

  • 86% reduction in number of code blue events
  • 45% reduction in number of ICU days on patients transferred from med-surg
  • 9% reduction in length of stay
