Hospital quality drivers and reimbursement entities have placed a significant emphasis on decreasing pressure ulcers as part of a general drive to improve patient safety and reduce avoidable injuries.
In 1989, Hillrom introduced the International Pressure Ulcer Prevalence (IPUP) survey to assess the number and severity of pressure ulcers occurring in healthcare facilities.
Today, IPUP is the largest global running pressure ulcer database, with over 1000 facilities participating over a 3-day period surveying more than 100,000 patients each year. Acute care, long term care, long term acute care, rehabilitation, and home care organizations around the world volunteer to participate in the data collection process.
IPUP provides healthcare facilities with a validated process including online data collection tools training materials, and summary reports to help determine your baseline prevalence and measure intervention outcomes. IPUP can also provide customised facility reports and comparison to national benchmarks.
