Pressure Ulcer Survey

Hill-Rom Prevalence Surveys

Hill-Rom’s prevalence reporting portfolio is based on our deep clinical expertise and experience which enables our customers to achieve and sustain measurable improvements in outcomes, patient satisfaction and subsequently, financial and operational performance.

Hill-Rom can assist you in making additional, dramatic improvements in outcomes quality. Hill-Rom offers a nationally recognized prevalence reporting package (IPUP) which occurs once a year and a (FAST) prevalence in between IPUP studies for clients who want even more information on their prevalence.

Annual IPUP Survey
(International Pressure Ulcer Prevalence)

Hill-Rom has been conducting National Pressure Ulcer Prevalence Surveys since 1989 in order to help organizations assess their pressure ulcer occurrence. Over 700 organizations participate in the annual survey including Acute care, Long term care, Long term acute care and Home care.

Your organization will receive a no cost organization-specific report including national and international prevalence and facility acquired prevalence benchmarks. The analysis of the data that you will receive will allow for:

  • Use of pressure ulcer prevention programs
  • Determination of protocol compliance
  • Identification of at risk/pressure ulcer patient population characteristics
  • Direction for program improvement
  • Facility comparisons against national benchmarks
  • What about NDNQI?
  • Let Hill-Rom assist you with data collection for NDNQI. The IPUP survey includes all data collection points required for submitting your organization results.

When is it?
The survey is conducted annually over a three-day period in late February to early March. There is a flexible data collection window - choose the 24 hour period that best fits your needs! Please refer to the 2009 IPUP brochure for details.

Who can participate?
Acute care, long-term care, rehabilitation, long-term acute care and home care organizations around the world volunteer to participate in the data collection process. Home care branches also have the opportunity to participate and are given 15 days to assess all home care patients.

How does my organization participate?
Participation is easy and includes online training. For more information contact Hill-Rom's International Pressure Ulcer Prevalence Hotline toll free at 1-888-467-4839.

"Our participation in the 2005 Survey helped us identify areas for improvement in both pressure relief and documentation.  As a result, our policies and approach to patient care were altered – and we’ve seen positive results this year.  This has been a “win-win” situation and great learning experience for everyone involved.”

Liz Moro,
St. Vincent Charity Hospital
Cleveland, Ohio

“This survey provided us a great opportunity to gauge how we are doing with our skin-care protocol, conduct “on-the-spot” teaching, and involve staff and skin-care team members in the data-collection process.  Thanks!”

Valorie Cooke,
Roanoke Chowan Hospital
Ahoskie, North Carolina

“This is a wonderful service to provide to all facilities who are trying to give the best possible care to their patients.  This benchmarking activity will be the baseline of our future quality improvement initiatives.”

Lee Ann Krapfl,
Mercy Medical Center
Dubuque, Iowa
